Biography of Dr. Liu Hui

He received his M.D. degree in 1985 and his M.Sc. degree in 1990.

Formerly the Chief Scientist and Senior Embryologist at New Hope Fertility Center for over 15 years, Dr. Liu is an internationally recognized reproductive scientist and embryologist with outstanding achievements and contributions in the field of human reproduction. Dr. Liu created the three-parent embryo, which led to the birth of the world’s so-called first three-parent baby.

Dr. Liu was an Associate Professor at the State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Biology, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences for eight years. Dr. Liu was invited to join the IVF program at New York University as a research scientist for ten years. He was involved in the research of IVF technology, development of in vitro fertilization technology for advanced infertile mothers, and development of vitrification egg freezing technology.

Dr. Liu has published more than 50 papers in the world, in prestigious refereed journals, and has given several oral presentations at ASRM, the national authority on reproduction in the United States.
Specialties: Dr. Liu is working on oocyte maturation research to find ways to overcome the obstacle of infertility in women of advanced maternal age and has successfully performed embryo transfers using GV-stage oocytes from women of advanced maternal age, becoming the first pregnancy in the history of the NHFC to be matured using in vitro maturation of very immature oocytes at the GV-stage, which is an important step in providing alternative treatments for infertility in women of advanced maternal age.

Dr. Liu has successfully created embryos from GV in elder woman, leading the first pregnancy in NHFC history applying in vitro maturation technique for very immature oocyte at GV stage, a very important step for germinal vesicle transfer, a technique aiming to provide alternative treatment for maternal aged infertility.
